SAN FRANCISCO — TYLin, a global engineering and consulting firm, today announced the promotion of Melvin Wah to Director of Sustainable Mobility within TYLin’s Advisory and Planning practice.

In the role, Wah will continue to advance safe, sustainable, and affordable mobility in the firm’s work with cities and transportation agencies.

Since joining TYLin in 2023, Wah has played a pivotal role in some of the practice’s most innovative initiatives. His work includes leading the development of the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) and Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) transformative plan for the future of bus service, advancing New York City’s landmark Warehouse Indirect Source Emissions Reduction (WISER) Program, and supporting the update to the NYC Streets Plan, NYCDOT’s comprehensive five-year framework for surface transportation.

Wah helps cities translate ambitious climate goals into practical transportation strategies. He led the development of the Transportation Emissions Reductions calculator, a powerful decision-support tool that allows cities to quantify the emissions impacts of transportation investments, evaluate scenarios, and support informed planning decisions. He also assembled a freight decarbonization playbook to help cities rethink how they move goods, especially for the last mile. A mobility thought leader, he frequently speaks and writes on the changing transportation landscape.

Wah earned bachelor’s degrees in international development from SOAS, University of London and in geography from King’s College London. He holds a master’s degree in city/urban, community and regional planning from Rutgers University. He is a Climatebase Fellow, a graduate of the 2025 Coro Leadership New York program and is part of the 2024 New York University Rudin Center Emerging Leaders of Transportation cohort. Wah currently serves as chairperson of the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ Sustainability Committee.

“This is a pivotal time for transportation,” said Wah. “Cities know what they need to achieve: safer streets, better transit, cleaner freight, and more resilient transportation systems. The challenge now is turning those ambitions into solutions that work on the ground. I am excited to work with our clients to bridge that gap and deliver transportation systems that give people better, more sustainable ways to get around.”“Cities are facing increasingly complex challenges, and our role is to help them turn big ideas into practical solutions,” said Stacey Meekins, Senior Vice President and Advisory and Planning Practice Leader at TYLin. “Melvin brings the kind of forward-looking approach and practical expertise to support our clients and deliver more sustainable, connected, and vibrant communities.”
